How to Measure a Dakimakura Cover for a Replacement (Without Guessing)

By DakiCustomize Production Team Last updated

TL;DR (Quick Summary)

Measure a dry, empty dakimakura cover flat, from seam to seam, without stretching it. Compare both dimensions with the cover and insert labels before choosing a replacement: a used cover's measurements alone cannot confirm the original size or guarantee a new cover will fit.

Measure the Empty Cover

Start with the size tags or original order details for your cover and insert. Keep these listed dimensions separate from the measurements you take below.

  1. Remove the insert completely. A tape following a stuffed pillow's curved surface gives a different reading from a flat cover.
  2. Lay the dry cover on a clean table or floor. Smooth out wrinkles gently, leaving the fabric relaxed. Do not pull the corners tight.
  3. Measure the length. Run the tape straight from the top seam to the bottom seam, excluding the zipper pull and loose hardware.
  4. Measure the width. Measure straight across from one side seam to the other, without stretching the fabric.
  5. Save both readings. Write length × width with the units, and take a photo showing the tape in each position.

Use the Measurements Without Guessing a Size

Wear and washing may change an old cover's shape. If it measures 158 cm long, that does not establish that it was originally a 160 cm cover. Do not treat the nearest listed size as a confirmed match.

DakiCustomize offers 137 × 50, 150 × 50, 160 × 50, and 180 × 60 cm, plus Other custom sizes. For the differences between these options, see the dakimakura size guide.

The 137 × 50 cm option corresponds to the common 20 × 54 inch body pillow format. Check your insert's label and fullness; this does not guarantee a fit across all brands.

If Labels Are Missing or the Numbers Disagree

With only a bare insert, look up its original listing or ask its seller for the intended cover size. Measuring over the filling does not give you an empty-cover measurement. See the pillowcase and insert guide if you are unsure which component you have.

For an uncertain or unusual size, email pawnshopno7@gmail.com before ordering. Include your measurements and photos, any label or order details, the insert's brand or listing, and how the old cover fits. Confirm the replacement dimensions before cropping your artwork.
