Dakimakura Image Resolution Guide: 300 DPI Artwork for Custom Printing

DPI is only part of the result. The file also needs enough real pixel information for the chosen cover size. Changing a small image from 72 DPI to 300 DPI does not recreate missing linework, texture, or facial detail.
Pixel dimensions for your cover size
For a 160 x 50 cm cover, 6000 x 2000 pixels is our minimum reference for reviewing a source file, not a guarantee of sharp printing. It is a 3:1 image, while this cover is 3.2:1. Adjust the crop or extend the background to fit; do not stretch the character.
For new artwork, the table below gives approximate dimensions at 300 pixels per inch (PPI), often called 300 DPI in file instructions. These are calculated from the finished size, without extra bleed. Confirm the production template before drawing.

A larger pixel count does not undo compression or guarantee a particular print result. Inspect the original linework and the final export, especially eyes and text.
Use the best source file available
Use the original export from the artist whenever possible. Avoid screenshots, messaging-app copies, and images downloaded from social platforms because they may be resized or compressed.
If the clearest file you have is still blurry, send it to DakiCustomize before ordering. We offer free image enhancement before printing. Enhancement can improve a weak source, but it cannot perfectly recreate details that are completely missing, so always send the largest and clearest version available.
RGB or CMYK?
For a DakiCustomize custom dakimakura, keep the artwork in RGB unless our team gives you a specific alternative. Most anime, OC, and VTuber artwork is created digitally in RGB, so keeping that working color mode avoids an unnecessary conversion.
CMYK is appropriate when a printer provides a specific ICC profile, template, proofing process, or conversion instruction. Do not choose a generic CMYK profile and assume it will improve the result. Color mode also does not fix low resolution.
Printed fabric and a backlit screen reproduce color differently, so a small difference between the monitor and final cover is normal. Review important colors on a reasonably calibrated display and keep the editable RGB file.
Check the crop and safe area
Choose the cover size before finalizing the composition. Keep faces, hands, text, logos, and signatures at least approximately 2 cm inside the artwork edges, and confirm the template before final export. Background areas are safer to extend or crop than important character details.

- Open the exported file, not only the editable project.
- Confirm the final cover size and orientation.
- Check that the file has enough pixel detail at print size.
- Use RGB and export PNG or a clean, high-quality JPG.
- Review faces, hands, text, logos, and edges.
- Label front and back files clearly.
- Make sure any shared download link opens without special access.
