Dakimakura Image Resolution Guide: 300 DPI Artwork for Custom Printing
Last updated: June 26, 2026
A dakimakura pillowcase is much larger than a phone wallpaper or social media image. If the file is too small, the final print can look blurry or pixelated.
Quick Answer
For best print results at DakiCustomize, prepare your custom dakimakura artwork at 300 DPI in RGB color mode. PNG is preferred, and high-quality JPG files can also be accepted.
Changing the DPI number alone does not create new detail. Start with the original high-resolution artwork whenever possible.

What Does 300 DPI Mean?
DPI stands for dots per inch. For custom printing, it helps describe how much image detail is available at the intended print size.
A small image changed to 300 DPI can still look blurry if the original pixel data is not detailed enough. The actual image quality matters more than the number shown in the file properties.
Check the Actual Artwork Quality
Before submitting your file, check these points:
- The artwork is the original high-resolution file, not a compressed preview.
- The file is prepared at 300 DPI for the intended print size.
- The image is RGB, not CMYK.
- Lines, faces, hands, and small details look sharp when viewed closely.
- Front and back artwork files are clearly labeled if ordering a two-sided pillowcase.
Recommended File Formats
- PNG: preferred for clean anime artwork and illustrations.
- High-quality JPG: acceptable when saved at high quality.
- PSD, CLIP, or SAI: export a final high-resolution PNG or JPG before uploading.
Avoid screenshots, low-resolution previews, photos of screens, or images that have already been heavily compressed.
Artwork From Pixiv, X, or Other Social Platforms
Many social platforms resize and compress uploaded images. Even if the artist created a high-resolution file, the public preview may not be suitable for a full-size dakimakura print.
If you commissioned the artwork, ask the artist for the original print-ready file. Always make sure you have permission to use the artwork for your custom print.
Two-Sided Dakimakura Artwork
If your dakimakura has different artwork on each side, prepare two separate files:
- Front side artwork
- Back side artwork
Label each file clearly and check that both sides use the correct orientation.
File Check Before Production
Before production, we check submitted files for obvious issues. This does not replace a full design review or retouching service, so please inspect your final artwork before submitting it.
