[Size Guide] 150cm vs 160cm vs 180cm: Why 160cm took over the industry, and the absolute unit that is 180cm.

Hey, DakiCustomize fans!

Today, let’s talk about something that drastically changes both the hugging experience and the artist's canvas: Size.

If you've been in this hobby for a while, you’ve probably noticed the shift in standard sizes over the years. Here is the supplier breakdown of the Big Three sizes, and why it matters before you order your next custom cover.

(Check out the attached photo to see the crazy height difference side-by-side!)

1. The 150x50cm (The Legacy Standard) Years ago, this was the absolute standard in Japan. Why? Because the average height and bed sizes in Japan were traditionally smaller.

  • Pros: Cheap inner pillows are easy to find on Amazon. Good for shorter folks.

  • Cons: It's being phased out. If you are over 5'7" (170cm), hugging a 150cm pillow means your knees will likely hang off the bottom. Plus, the 3:1 aspect ratio can sometimes make modern character art look slightly squished.

2. The 160x50cm (The Global Gold Standard) This is the current king of the hill. Over 90% of our custom orders are 160cm, and almost all premium inner pillow brands (like A&J or Kumamon) are tailored for this length.

  • Why it won: The extra 10cm makes a massive difference for leg support when side-sleeping. The 3.2:1 aspect ratio gives artists a taller, more elegant canvas, especially perfect for drawing legs without cutting off the feet. It’s the perfect balance of size and manageability for the average adult.

3. The 180x60cm (The Absolute Unit / Giant Scale) This is where things get wild. We get custom requests for this size mainly for "Ara Ara" big sister/mommy characters, towering husbandos, or massive furry/mecha designs.

  • The Hug: It is incredibly immersive. It feels like hugging an actual, full-sized human.

  • The Threshold (Why it's rare): We offer 180cm, but we always warn clients about the "hidden costs." First, finding a 180x60cm inner pillow that is actually high quality is expensive and heavy. Second, you need insanely high-resolution art. An image that looks crisp at 150cm might look blurry when stretched to 1.8 meters.

💡 Supplier's Custom Tip: If you are commissioning an artist for a custom cover, always tell them your target size before they start sketching! Expanding a 150cm canvas to 160cm later will either crop the image or stretch your character.

What size is your current daily hugger? Has anyone here taken the plunge into the 180cm monster territory? Let me know how you manage that beast on your bed! 😂
