RGB or CMYK for Dakimakura Printing? What to Send

Follow the printer's requirements for this order

“RGB or CMYK for dakimakura printing?” has a practical answer: follow the selected printer's file requirements. DakiCustomize's file requirements specify RGB.

That doesn't mean CMYK is always wrong for physical printing. It means you shouldn't apply another printer's workflow to this order. Ask before converting an illustration if you are uncertain about its existing setup.

If your file is already CMYK, keep the master

Don't overwrite the only copy while experimenting. Ask the artist whether an original RGB working file is available, then compare the intended export with the master.

Assigning a profile and converting a profile are different operations. In Photoshop, assignment changes how existing values are interpreted; conversion changes values for a destination profile. Adobe explains the distinction.

Changing the label is not a dependable way to restore the artist's intended appearance. Nor is it accurate to say every CMYK conversion necessarily ruins every picture. The result depends on the starting file and conversion.

Check appearance without promising an exact match

Open the final file in a color-managed application where possible. Check for unexpected changes in skin tones, dark areas and important colors before sending it.

A screen emits light; fabric is viewed under external lighting. Screen settings and viewing conditions can affect the comparison. A normal digital export is not a physical color proof, and selecting RGB doesn't remove those differences.

If a particular color is critical, ask what can be checked before ordering rather than assuming a proofing service is included.
